Chicago BOTOX® at Ritacca Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa

BOTOX® Overview

After years of domination in the cosmetic industry, BOTOX® has cemented its reputation as one of the safest and most effective anti-aging procedures in the world. Using an advanced formula, BOTOX® can significantly soften some of the most common signs of aging.

Over the years, repeated facial muscle movements eventually lead to the development of wrinkles in the parts of our faces that express emotion, aka “expression lines.” BOTOX® is a neuromodulator, meaning it can block nerve impulses, which relax the facial muscles that cause the development of crow’s feet, laugh lines, frown lines, and more, creating a more youthful and smoother appearance. BOTOX® can also work as a treatment for migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and eye and neck muscle spasms.

As an injectable, BOTOX® requires one quick treatment with results that can last for multiple months. Decades of use by millions of patients around the world and multiple clinical trials have shown that BOTOX® is safe and reliable for long-term, repeated use.

Ritacca Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa is a Black Diamond account with Allergan, the makers of BOTOX®. Practices earn this status after achieving the top 2% in the country in terms of volume. Dr. Kathleen Morno and Dawn Davidson, RN, are Allergan trainers who train other physicians on how to inject Allergan products such as BOTOX®Juvéderm®Juvéderm® Voluma, and Juvéderm® Volbella.

Your Consultation for Chicago BOTOX®

Your BOTOX® treatment requires skill and artistry to create the most natural, long-lasting results. That’s why your consultation at Ritacca Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa is so essential for planning the right treatment; during your consultation with our experienced patient coordinator, we will discuss your aesthetic goals, the risks and benefits of the procedure, your medical history, examine before-and-after photos, and answer any questions you might have about the procedure.

Your consultation will go a long way toward helping us plan the perfect BOTOX® treatment, so we can give you the rejuvenated look you’ve always wanted.

What Happens During a Chicago BOTOX® Treatment

Your BOTOX® procedure will be incredibly quick, simple, and relatively painless — the procedure takes less than a half an hour to complete and no anesthesia is necessary. Our practitioners usually inject BOTOX®  into areas like around the eyes, forehead, and mouth to specifically target expression areas.

Patients receive several small injections during a typical treatment. Your provider will carefully place each injection to maximize its effect and create the natural-looking results that characterize our practice. The average treatment takes less than 30 minutes, but if you’re receiving BOTOX® at the same time as a facial or microneedling treatment, plan for additional time.

Recovery After BOTOX® Cosmetic

Some patients may experience mild bruising at the injection sites, but in general, BOTOX® does not require any downtime or recovery period.

Common side effects after BOTOX® include redness, tenderness, bruising, and swelling. Most patients find these resolve within a few days. Minimal care is necessary after your treatment, and our team will provide detailed recovery instructions during your visit.

What to Expect: BOTOX® Injections for Migraines

Even if you don’t get migraine headaches, you probably know someone who does. And while you’ve probably heard of BOTOX® being used for generations to smooth foreheads in Hollywood, you might not have heard that starting in 2010, it has also brought relief to many people who suffer from chronic migraines.

You could well be finding that migraine headaches are disrupting your life and that the medications you are taking are just not working. Well, it could be time to learn more about the BOTOX® injection migraine relief offered by Dr. Daniel Ritacca and his team at Ritacca Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa in Vernon Hills, IL.

What Is BOTOX®, and How Does It Treat Migraines?

BOTOX® is a neurotoxin (botulinum toxin A) produced by the bacteria that causes botulism. When the BOTOX® toxin is purified and injected, it has been shown to decrease the number and severity of migraines significantly. BOTOX® enters the nerve endings at the injection site and blocks the neurotransmitters that carry the brain’s pain signals.

Over the course of up to three treatments, our team injects BOTOX® around the pain fibers of the head and neck involved in headaches. One treatment of between 30 and 40 injections lasts between 10 and 12 weeks, with results being experienced in 2 to 3 weeks.

What Type of Headache Responds Best to BOTOX®

BOTOX® is FDA-approved for adults aged 18 or over who suffer from migraines that occur on 15 or more days a month. BOTOX® is not recommended for patients who experience fewer than 15 headache days a month.

What is BOTOX® Treatment Like?

When you prepare for your first BOTOX® treatment, expect the appointment to take about 20 minutes. Our experts will use a tiny needle with each injection feeling like a pinprick. The most common side effect from the BOTOX® injections is a sore neck, but you can use an ice pack to reduce the discomfort.

BOTOX® and Migraine Myths

While you might come across several myths involving BOTOX® and migraines, these are the most common:

1. BOTOX® Works Immediately

The first injection of BOTOX® typically does not provide instant relief. However, for some people, it might reduce the severity and frequency of attacks.

2. BOTOX® Overrides Migraine Triggers

While on BOTOX®, some people might find they are less reactive to their migraine triggers. Each individual’s migraine triggers can differently affect how well BOTOX® works.

3. I Never Again Have to Take Acute Medications

Depending on one’s symptoms, it might still be necessary to take triptans or other acute medications.

Have Your Best Year Yet in 2018 With These Procedures

When we look great, we feel great—that’s why having cosmetic procedures can be the best way start a new year on the right foot. But with all of the options we have to choose from where skincare and anti-aging are concerned, it can be hard to know which treatments offer the best overall value. That’s why we’ve put together the following list of our favorite rejuvenation techniques; if you’re interested in overhauling your look, these four procedures are the perfect place to start.

The 4 Top Cosmetic Procedures for the New Year

  1. Cellfina.

Cellulite: Approximately 90% of us have it, but none of us like it. Fortunately, over the last decade, an extremely effective (and minimally invasive) cellulite treatment system known as Cellfina has been developed. During Cellfina, very thin needles (too thin to cause significant pain) are inserted below the dermis via a special applicator. A cosmetic surgeon uses these needles to separate and “release” the fibrous septae below the skin. Once these connective tissues are divided, they no longer have the ability to create puckers in the skin… And as a result, all of the patient’s unsightly pits and dimples dissapear.

Cellfina boasts a 96% satisfaction rate (based on reports gathered from patients two years after they had this procedure) and it’s ideal for treating moderate to severe cellulite. However, in cases of especially severe cellulite, Cellfina may not create a 100% reduction in visible symptoms. Patients can, however, have multiple Cellfina appointments and/or pair Cellfina with other complementary skin-firming procedures to enhance their results.

  1. CoolSculpting.

Once upon a time, the idea of being able to remove stubborn fat deposits without surgery would have sounded like a fantasy. Thankfully, technology has come a long way since those days, and today we can opt for noninvasive fat removal treatments like CoolSculpting. They’re convenient (as they require no healing time), usually relatively painless, and fairly affordable. What’s more, they work: CoolSculpting has been proven to remove 24% of the fat cells from treated areas.

During CoolSculpting, a special applicator is applied to the patient’s skin. While keeping the skin comfortably warm, it administers deep cold to the subcutaneous fat cells found below the dermis. This damages the fat cells enough that the body cannot repair them; instead, it gradually excretes them via the liver and lymphatic system. (This is a completely normal, natural process and you will not feel it happening.) As a result, the patient will notice areas where they had CoolSculpting applied getting progressively trimmer over the two months after they complete their treatment sessions.

Keep in mind, however, that no fat removal treatment (surgical or nonsurgical) is able to act as a total weight loss solution. You will need to use diet and exercise to get within 25-30 pounds of your goal weight before using cosmetic fat removal procedures. CoolSculpting and other fat removal treatments are ideal for patients who are a healthy weight, but who need “spot fat reduction” on their abdomen, back, flanks, arms, etc.

  1. BOTOX®.

BOTOX® is a cosmetic classic for a reason: It can quickly and painlessly reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily relaxing the muscles that are responsible for creating “dynamic” wrinkles. (Dynamic wrinkles are caused directly by the creasing of the skin, whereas static wrinkles are imprinted lines in the skin that form over time due to collagen loss.) BOTOX® is very low-risk and unlikely to cause adverse reactions, and when it’s applied by a skilled clinician, it will not affect your ability to make facial expressions. What it will do, however, is make you look about five years younger.

  1. Dermal Fillers.

For all of those nasty static wrinkles that BOTOX® alone can’t get rid of, there are dermal fillers like Juvéderm®. Dermal fillers are made of viscous gel-like compounds (usually hyaluronic acid, a regenerative substance that’s naturally found in the human body) that can literally “fill in” facial lines. Dermal fillers can also be used to fill in hollows under the cheeks, correct imperfections in the nose, fill out the lips, and fill in acne scars. They are, in short, highly versatile—and very safe. If you want an effective anti-aging solution that doesn’t require going “under the knife,” then dermal fillers are probably for you.

Because the four procedures above require no “downtime” in which to heal, they provide a great way to start improving your appearance during the busy holiday season. So, what are you waiting for—why not book a consultation today?

How to Get Younger Looking Eyes

Many of us know the feeling of getting told we look tired even when we aren’t. Under eye bags, wrinkles, and dark circles can give the eyes a tired and aged appearance. Rejuvenation treatments to the eyes are a commonly sought out treatment. We all have a desire to look rested and youthful. There are a variety of treatments in the toolbox that can offer you younger looking eyes in our North Chicago medical spa located in Vernon Hills.

As we age we lose volume under the eyes and in the cheeks that can cause hollowness, bags, dark circles, and flat cheeks. Some are genetically prone to hollowness or bags. Hyaluronic acid injectable fillers are made of a gel substance we naturally have in our bodies and are commonly used to add volume to the under eye and cheek area. There are several different types of fillers that can be used such as Restylane® and Juvéderm® depending on the individual. The injections themselves are quick, virtually painless, and offer results you can see instantly. There is a risk of bruising and swelling that typically resides within one week. Results last approximately 1-2 years. The injectors at Ritacca Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa are national trainers for injectables. They also use the innovative microcannula technique which is a safer method and offers less risk of bruising.

Laser resurfacing and Microneedling for Eye Rejuvenation

Microneedling is performed with a small portable device that uses tiny needles to painlessly puncture the skin. This stimulates collagen and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. DermaPen® microneedling is typically done in a series of 6 treatments spaced every 2 weeks and offers minimal downtime; often a mild sunburned appearance for a couple of days. Laser resurfacing also improves wrinkles and can be customized as a mild or aggressive treatment depending on individual need and goals. Laser resurfacing removes a layer of damaged skin leaving new rejuvenated skin in its place. Downtime can range anywhere from 1 day to 1 week depending on the treatment. Fractora skin resurfacing is another treatment that uses advanced radiofrequency to tighten the skin on a deeper level with ablated skin that heals very quickly. Fractora offers results comparable to laser resurfacing without the downtime. Fractora is typically performed in a series of 1-3 treatments depending on individual need. Growth factors can be added to any of these treatments to give the skin a boost in collagen stimulation, nutrients, and to speed up healing.

Glytone Eye & Lip Peel for Younger Looking Eyes

ThermiSmooth and Ultherapy Skin Tightening for Non-Surgical Eye Rejuvenation

chicago Ultherapy eye rejuvenation

ThermiSmooth and Ultherapy are both skin tightening treatments. They can be used to rejuvenate, lift, and tighten the lower and upper eyelids. The Thermismooth uses advanced radiofrequency technology that uses controlled heat for collagen remodel. Ultherapy uses advanced ultrasound technology to penetrate deep into the skin with precise heat and imaging. Thermismooth offers patients no downtime and typically a series of 3-6 treatments is recommended. Ultherapy is a single treatment with optimal results seen 3-6 months after treatment with long lasting results. Some individuals experience swelling or bruising after treatment that typically reside within 1 week.

Blepharoplasty Surgical Eye Lift

A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that offers the most dramatic results. A blepharoplasty can be done on the upper eyelids or lower eyelids to remove excess skin and fat. The treatment only takes about an hour and there is minimal downtime. It can be performed under IV sedation and local anesthesia. Sutures remain in the area for about 1 week so there may be some restrictions such as strenuous working out until the sutures come out. Post care is given by your physician based on individual need. Some blepharoplasty surgeries can be covered through insurance.

BOTOX® and BOTOX® Alternatives

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a booming and continuously growing aesthetic treatment. BOTOX® is one of the most clinically studied drugs with treatments having being performed in the USA since 2002 with FDA approval for cosmetic use in 78 countries worldwide. BOTOX® Cosmetic is the most commonly heard of injectable treatment for relaxing muscles that cause facial wrinkles, but there are also two BOTOX® alternatives that act in a similar way to BOTOX®: Dysport and Xeomin®.

Common areas treated with these muscle relaxers are frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, mouth, forehead, and neck. Muscle relaxers are also used to treat medical conditions such as migraines, blepharospasm, excessive sweating, and overactive bladder. All 3 injectables are FDA approved for treatment of specific areas while commonly used off label for others.

The injections themselves are done with a tiny needle and only take a few minutes. The treatment is comfortable with no downtime and often referred to as a small pinch. The injections take approximately 7-14 days for full effect but can be seen as early as 2 days and then can last up to 4 months. The wrinkles will not appear worse once the treatment has worn off; in fact treatment is actually preventive and since those muscles were not contracting the areas to often appear softer.

More About BOTOX®

Made from a purified protein, BOTOX® injections block nerve impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look. BOTOX® is commonly used to treat crow’s feet, worry and frown lines, and may also be useful for migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and eye and neck muscle spasms.

More About BOTOX® Alternatives: Dysport & Xeomin®

What is Dysport?

Even though Dysport is very similar to BOTOX®, Dysport can diffuse muscles one to three centimeters from the injection point, while BOTOX® can only reach as far as one centimeter, allowing for results that reach further areas with just a single injection. For many patients this may be an excellent and preferred alternative.

botox alternatives dysport before  dysport after botox alternatives

What is Xeomin®?

Xeomin® is the newest botulinum toxin type A injectable. It has just been approved by the FDA for use in patients with cervical dystonia and blepharospasm. It has not yet been approved for cosmetic use like BOTOX® and Dysport; however it is being used off label to also eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Unlike BOTOX® and Dysport, Xeomin® doesn’t contain additives. There are a small percentage of people who develop an antibody to BOTOX® and Dysport in which the treatment doesn’t take desired effect therefore Xeomin® can be an excellent alternative.

Which Botulinum Toxin is Right For You?

BOTOX® may be the most commonly heard of injectable, but Dysport and Xeomin® are also efficacious and can provide a great alternative. The injectables can be compared to Coke and Pepsi. They are similar but we often prefer one to the other. Based on results and longevity one injectable may get preferred while often there is little or no difference to be noticed. BOTOX® and Dysport offer rewards programs in which members can receive points redeemable for coupons to use at their next visit.

Where to Go for BOTOX® & BOTOX® Alternatives in North Chicago

We are in the top 2% volume of injections in the nation for Allergan. Results are not based on just the product but primarily on the experience of the injector. Be wary of inexperienced injectors and cheap deals as they are usually are too good to be true. Call us today to schedule your complimentary consultation today and learn more about BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin® with one of our highly experienced injectors (847)367-8815.

Do you have any information about the new treatment that is similar to BOTOX®? Are you going to offer it?

Dysport is a brand of Botulinum Toxin Type A, the same ingredient that is found in BOTOX®. Though similar, they are not identical. Though we anticipate that Dysport will cost less per unit, one will likely require 2-3 times as many units to get the same result.
At this point we are not certain of any real differences but we have not heard of any red flags with its use.  The hope is that now that Dysport is available, Allergan may choose to drop the price of BOTOX® to compete. Dysport will start being dispensed in our office sometime in June after our experienced staff is trained by the manufacturer.
