Hyperhidrosis is when a person has excessive sweating, which comes from overactive sweat glands. This condition can occur in different parts of the body, including under the arms and on the feet and palms of the hands. This condition can be a physiological condition or an inherited trait that prevents the body from being able to regulate its temperature.
How can this condition be treated?
There are injectables that many are familiar with for other uses, but both BOTOX® and Dysport can be used to treat hyperhidrosis. They are effective in stopping the chain reaction that leads to excessive sweat production.
How long will the treatment last?
The treatment for hyperhidrosis can last for up to six months. During that time frame, patients will experience much lower levels of sweat production. The treatment is most effective when it is repeated every four to six months.
Does insurance cover BOTOX® for Hyperhidrosis?
BOTOX® is FDA-approved to treat excessive underarm sweating and many insurance companies will look into coverage. However, only selective cases are covered. It’s important to know that coverage doesn’t mean you’ll be reimbursed for the full cost of BOTOX®. All insurance plans are different and It’s important that you understand your coverage at time of your appointment.
To see if you qualify for BOTOX® reimbursement, schedule an appointment with one of our doctors for an exam. To improve your chances of getting coverage, you should try all other options before submitting the paperwork, including natural supplements, topical over-the-counter and prescription products and more.
