Advantages of Getting Plastic Surgery in the Spring | Ritacca Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa

With the warm days of summer and days on the beach fast approaching, you must be wondering what and when will be the best approach to get bikini-ready.

For some time, you’ve had the mindset to get cosmetic surgery when the time is right, and spring certainly is cosmetic surgery season! Having “work” done this time of year means you’ll be ready for summer and less clothing, the beach, bathing suits, summer parties, vacation, and, of course, weddings.

Now that the holidays and winter activities are behind you, it’s time to take care of those cosmetic procedures you’ve promised yourself.

The advantages to having plastic surgery during the spring include:

  • Kids are still in school, which means you won’t need to ask for as much extra help
  • Weather is still cool enough to conceal your surgeries with bulky clothing
  • Spring holidays and long weekends give you time to recuperate
  • Best time for that final tune-up before summer

Best Types of Plastic Surgery to Get During Spring

Spring is the time of renewal and rejuvenation; the weather is still cool enough to wear bulkier clothing to comfortably conceal any swelling and bruising from your surgery without becoming overheated. Already you can picture yourself showing off your new body at the beach or pool!

With a single visit to the experts at Ritacca Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa, you’ll be well on your way to your best summer ever!

If you’re working on a timeline for a wedding, vacation, or some other special event, be sure to let your surgeon know during your consultation. Your spring procedure will typically be healed in time for the start of summer.

Spring is a great time to consider the following procedures:

Breast augmentation. Get the contours you deserve with a breast augmentation.

FaceliftRejuvenate the skin on your face and neck.

Tummy tuckFlatten and shape your waist and abdomen.

Liposuction. Get back that sculpted look with the removal of unwanted fat.

Prefer Something Less Invasive?

For treatments that require less downtime, you could consider these great options:

Photofacial. For a stunning spring reveal, a Sciton Forever Young BroadBand Light (BBL)™ light photofacial rejuvenation can target a wide variety of skin conditions related to sun damage and aging.

HydraFacial. You should consider this treatment for a painless way to exfoliate and revive your skin with no surgery or downtime. And afterward, apply healing, nourishing serums to restore even more to your new glow.

Cellulite treatment. Cellfina is a revolutionary new cellulite treatment that can virtually eliminate cellulite and the best part is that this procedure involves no surgery whatsoever.

Skin rejuvenation. Another treatment you could consider this spring is to treat yourself to a rejuvenation facial. Bring back that healthy glow to your skin; heal and repair skin that the cold, dry winter weather has damaged.

Nonsurgical body contouring sculpting treatments, including dermal fillers and BOTOX®, could also be on your spring refresh checklist. Add laser hair removal to eliminate shaving from your summer routine, and your summer self will thank you!

Within a week or two after most procedures, you will start seeing results that will continue to improve after you’re back in your regular routine.

Why January Is the Busiest Month of the Year for Cosmetic Treatments | Ritacca Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa

Besides making diet and fitness resolutions in January, people are increasingly considering having cosmetic treatments to improve their appearance. Amid current social media trends, many of our younger patients have a celebrity-inspired “bucket list” of cosmetic procedures they want to have done.

Winter is an ideal time to undergo nearly any type of cosmetic surgery. Thanks to the cold Chicago-area weather, you can wear bulkier clothing to conceal any swelling and bruising resulting from your procedure.

Apart from the traditional and deeply psychological aspects of hoping to become a better person in the new year, your life may have started to revolve around online meetings, due to the pandemic. On these video calls, we’re not only glimpsing inside our colleagues’ homes, but for the first time ever, we are staring back at ourselves and seeing our unflattering facial movements and features!

As a result of this new experience, there is an increased demand for cosmetic surgery described as being “from the neck up.” Due to the upsurge over the past year in people working from home and making frequent video calls, you may even have scheduled an appointment months ago to take care of a bothersome facial flaw.

Popular Cosmetic Treatments at Ritacca Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa

Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Treatments

This January is the ideal time to undergo non-surgical treatments, with several weeks of winter still ahead of us. Here are some of the most sought-after minimally invasive cosmetic treatments available from our full-service Medical Spa.

  • Injectables: Treat fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles.
  • Dermal fillers: Smooth facial lines, wrinkles, and scars with almost instant results.
  • Sculpting and tightening: Minimally invasive procedures that tighten loose skin, remove fat, and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
  • Sculptra® Aesthetic: Corrects shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds by replacing lost collagen with progressive, long-term results.

Cosmetic Surgery Treatments

For people with less facial aging, other forms of cosmetic surgery can minimize the effects of aging and offer a fresher, more youthful look. These outpatient procedures typically require a 10- to 14-day recovery period. You may need to wear bandages or dressings for up to a week after the procedure.

Our patients express the most interest in these cosmetic surgery treatments.

  • Facelift: Tightens muscles under the skin, removes excess fat and skin, resulting in a younger, fresher look.
  • Eyelid enhancement: Removes loose, sagging skin from the eyelids that can make a person appear tired or unhappy and restores a youthful eye appearance.
  • Brow lift: Reduces wrinkles and creases in the forehead and makes patients look more youthful and feel better about their appearance.
  • Rhinoplasty: Reshapes the nose for greater self-confidence and a more balanced look in overall appearance.
  • Neck lift: Tightens loose neck muscles, removes excess, sagging skin, and creates a smoother, firmer, and better-defined appearance to the neck. Conceal swelling or bruising with a scarf, turtleneck, or crewneck sweater.

Ready for Your Next Step This January?

This January will be like no other. Despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic, 2021 can still be your best year for reaching for and achieving new goals, developing new virtual friendships, and looking and feeling your best!

Why Facelifts Are Growing More Popular With Younger People

When we think of facelifts, we immediately think of older people turning back the clock on signs of aging. However, there is a growing trend where increasing numbers of younger patients are controlling the “pre-aging” process and taking prevention seriously. The trend helps to avoid having to reverse skin damage later in life.

With younger people gravitating towards facelifts, it can be interesting learning about what might be driving the trend.

Maintain and Extend a Youthful Appearance

We live in an era known as the ‘Age of the Selfie.’ With increasing attention being paid to faces on social media, the millennial demographic is more in-tune and focused on their facial structures and characteristics than any other generation.

Driving this trend are the social media influencers who create expectations for the way young people should look through their filtered or photoshopped photos. The pressure to take better selfies without depending on filters is a factor driving the trend toward cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery. After all, it is becoming more socially acceptable to have a little “work” done.

In particular, millennials are seeking to maintain and extend their youthful appearance to help them compete in the workplace and find that perfect next date.

Regardless of your age, to learn all about getting that facelift, and our other cosmetic surgery options, schedule a free cosmetic consultation with one of our respected plastic surgeons in Vernon Hills, IL.

It’s Not About Reversing Aging

When younger people choose to have a facelift, especially a mini-facelift, their results tend to look more natural than if they’d waited another 10 or 20 years.

Being more aware of the need always to look their best, young people are increasingly taking care of their skin. The simple act of applying sunscreen every day and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight reduces UV damage and the development of fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and age spots.

By limiting sun exposure, not smoking, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, young people know that they can improve their chances of maintaining their youthful looks for longer.

Advances in Plastic Surgery

As cosmetic surgeons continue to advance their skills, knowledge, and use of continually evolving technology, facelifts are becoming less invasive, delivering natural, long-lasting results with less downtime for both surgery and recovery.

With facelift surgery becoming less of an obstacle for young people coping with busy and demanding careers, it’s becoming more popular to consider the procedure earlier in life rather than later.

Better-Now-Than-Later for that Facelift

There are several good reasons why this better-now-than-later attitude is becoming popular with younger candidates, and here are just a few:

  • Getting that facelift while the skin is still naturally elastic yields the best results.
  • Family genetics can lead to droopy jowls and sagging cheeks, which can be more easily corrected while still young.
  • A modern facelift can last a decade, and by getting the procedure done early, young people can enjoy the full benefits for a longer time.
  • For younger people, there is a quicker recovery and less downtime.

The first signs of facial aging start to appear in our thirties. Before considering a facelift, non-surgical, injectable options like BOTOX® or Dysport® might be the perfect first step to minimizing wrinkles and fine lines.

While these injections relax the muscles for only a few months with each treatment, by preventing the muscles from contracting, wrinkles are prevented from worsening, effectively slowing down the aging process.

Why Facelifts Are Popular During the Holidays

The holiday season is many things— a time of giving, being thankful, spending time with loved ones, and reflecting on the year going by. It’s also a time for school vacations, time off work, family gatherings, and office holiday parties.

While the most wonderful time of the year may also be the busiest, it’s also an ideal time to undergo plastic surgery procedures such as faceliftsbrow liftseyelid enhancements, and more. Patients also choose minimally invasive treatments like injectablesdermal fillers, and many other options.

Here, we’ll discuss the advantages of scheduling facelift surgery during the holidays.

It’s All About Timing

The holidays are the perfect time to undergo facelift surgery primarily because you typically get to take some time off work. Many companies shut down around the holidays, letting employees take free vacation time. Not only does this give them some downtime away from work, but it is also the perfect amount of time for recovery from a plastic surgery procedure such as a facelift. This extra time will let you heal and recover from your surgery more comfortably and without missing anything at work.

A two to three week recovery period is key to obtaining ideal and long-lasting results. During this time, remember to avoid heavy workloads, stay out of the cold, and enjoy all the extra family time watching your favorite holiday movies while everyone cares for you!

What Happens During My Facelift Procedure?

The procedure is performed as an out-patient procedure under general anesthesia, typically taking 3-4 hours.

A series of incisions are made beneath the hairline and under the natural folds of the ears. Our surgeons remove any displaced fat through these incisions and redistribute the tissue to fill in any hollows while resolving any wrinkles. Repositioning the underlying tissue provides a firmer, smoother skin texture on the mid-face and neck.

All excess skin is removed after repositioning the underlying muscles and tissue, and the remainder is redraped. Finally, the incisions are closed using sutures that conceal the scar under the hairline and within the ear’s natural folds.

While you will be pleased with the results, they will not be so dramatic that people around you will notice and comment on the improvement. All you need to do is prepare to hear many compliments you on how great you look!

How Young is Too Young for a Facelift?

Facelift surgery is the most effective, long-lasting solution for pronounced skin laxity. This procedure can eliminate deep creases, lift sagging jowls, and adjust the cheeks to a more youthful position. Still, not all of these changes are necessary for every patient; younger patients, and thin patients with good skin elasticity, can sometimes forego facelift surgery in favor of a less invasive treatment.

What is the Right Age to have a Facelift?

There is no exact age where facelift surgery becomes the right choice. A patient who has lost a significant amount of weight in the past, or who has a history of smoking or sunbathing, may need a facelift as early as age 40. Conversely, a patient with excellent genetics who has always been slim and who has never smoked can potentially delay facelift surgery until her 60s. The only way to accurately assess whether or not you need a facelift is to visit a board-certified plastic surgeon for a consultation.

With that in mind, there are some general guidelines you can use if you’re contemplating having plastic surgery in the future. We usually recommend a modified facelift procedure, the Silhouette Instalift, for patients between the ages of 35-50. Patients in this age group don’t tend to have visibly loose, hanging skin around their jaw or neck. They also have relatively firm eyelids and their brows have not yet fallen substantially. For these patients, the visible signs of aging are usually limited to subtle sagging in the mid-face region: Their cheeks have started to fall and they often see creases forming along their nasolabial folds.

The Silhouette Instalift uses specialized self-dissolving sutures to lift the muscles that support the cheeks. This raises the mid-face area and eliminates many of the early signs of aging. No skin is removed during this procedure, so it requires very little downtime.

In many cases, our surgeons will pair the Silhouette Instalift with injectable treatments, like BOTOX® and dermal fillers, to uniformly minimize the visible signs of aging. BOTOX® relaxes crow’s feet and forehead lines, while fillers can fill in deep wrinkles and augment areas that have been affected by age-related facial fat loss.

Start the Holiday Party Season Looking Younger Than Ever with a Mini-Facelift

The old adage “good things come in small packages is usually true”—especially during the holiday season. Whether it’s an engagement ring or the keys to a new car, the best things in life often come in a deceptively diminutive form. But can the same thing ever really be said about plastic surgery? Can “mini” procedures like the mini facelift actually make a big difference in how someone looks? Yes, they can—and we’ll show you how.

What is a Mini Facelift?

A mini facelift is a less-invasive form of facelift surgery that’s also known as a “short scar” facelift. Rather than making lengthy incisions that extend along the hairline, the surgeon will make two shorter incisions just behind the patient’s ears. This allows the surgeon to effectively lift the mid-face area without creating any noticeable scars.

Thanks to modern facelift techniques, the mini facelift can create stunning results. Plastic surgeons don’t simply pull the skin taut when they perform a mini (or full) facelift. They go one step further and work with the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) that supports the face. They manipulate the tissues beneath the skin to make sure all the tissues affected by aging are addressed and lifted.

What Are the Benefits of Mini Facelift Surgery?

A mini facelift is gaining popularity in the world of plastic surgery for all of the following reasons:

  • Reduced healing time. While modern facelift techniques have reduced the total amount of healing time needed after a full deep plane facelift, mini facelift surgery is still the more convenient option. Recovery from mini facelift surgery typically takes 7-14 days (though some patients notice residual swelling up to three weeks after their surgery).
  • Less scarring. Because no incisions are made along the hairline during mini facelift surgery, patients get to enjoy a lack of visible incisions. To find the scars from a mini facelift, one would practically need to look deep behind the patient’s earlobes—an unlikely occurrence.
  • A more comfortable recovery. Because mini facelift surgery is less invasive than a full facelift, patients usually experience less pain, bruising, and swelling after this procedure. This lessens the need for pain medication and allows the patient to enjoy a more pleasant and relaxing recovery period.
  • A lower risk of complications. The more invasive a surgery is, the more likely it is that the patient will experience surgical complications (though complications are very rare with all forms of plastic surgery). Because mini facelift surgery is not highly intrusive, it carries a lower risk of post-surgical bleeding and infection. Likewise, because the changes made by a mini facelift are more subtle than those made by a full facelift, patients have a lower risk of cosmetic dissatisfaction. This procedure is excellent for creating natural-looking results when performed by a skilled, qualified plastic surgeon.
  • Greater ease and convenience. A mini facelift can usually be performed in just a few hours, and patients can return home immediately after the procedure is completed. Most surgeons will also perform this procedure under local, rather than general, anesthesia. This reduces post-procedure fatigue and grogginess.

Who is a Good Candidate for Mini Facelift Surgery?

As advantageous as a mini facelift can be, it’s not right for everyone. Though this procedure can produce excellent results when performed on the right candidate, it’s not designed to treat more advanced age-related issues. The mini facelift was developed to primarily target the mid-face area, not the jaw or neck region. As such, mini facelift patients must have acceptably firm neck skin. If there’s significant skin laxity present below the chin and jaw, a full facelift (with a neck lift) is recommended.

Due to the aforementioned considerations, the mini facelift is usually most appropriate for patients under the age of 45. However, some patients over 50 who still have relatively firm neck and jaw skin may also be eligible for this procedure.

As is the case with any invasive surgery, mini facelift patients must be in good overall health and either be a non-smoker or be willing to quit a few weeks before and after the mini facelift. Before booking a mini facelift consultation, you should see your doctor for a full physical in order to rule out the presence of any health conditions that might make surgery difficult. You should also discuss any medications you are taking with your doctor in order to verify that they won’t interfere with your ability to have surgery.

If you are a good candidate for mini facelift surgery, why not give this procedure a try? Mini facelift surgery produces long-lasting results that can take five or more years off your age. Most patients who have mini facelift surgery report looking more alert and vibrant, as well as feeling much more confident. Want your mini facelift performed by a true expert? CoolMini by CoolSculpting for a Double Chin

turkey neck double chin treatment

Coolsculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction treatment that uses the clinically proven method cryolipolysis. An applicator specially designed for the submental area called the Coolmini is applied under the chin. During the 45 minute treatment, the fat cells painlessly freeze and shatter to be naturally filtered out by the lymphatic system. A single treatment can eliminate up to 25% of the fat cells in the area treated. Often a series of 2 or more treatments is recommended for ideal results. There is no downtime with Coolsculpting and one can return to their normal activities immediately. It is possible to experience bruising or swelling to the area after treatment, but it often resolves within a few days. Some may see results from the treatment as early as 4 weeks but it can take 12-16 weeks to see optimal results. Coolsculpting can be an excellent option for those looking to treat submental fat with no downtime.

Kybella® for Double Chin

kybella double chin reduction for turkey neck

Kybella® is an FDA-approved injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness. Kybella® is a substance identical to deoxycholic acid naturally produced in the body that will absorb fat in the double chin for good. Kybella® is often performed in a series of 2 to 4 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart. During the treatment, Kybella® is injected with a very small needle similar to a BOTOX® treatment and the procedure usually only takes about 15 minutes. Kybella® not only reduces submental fat but has been shown to help retract loose skin. It is possible to experience bruising or swelling to the area, but it often resolves within one week. Kybella® can be an excellent treatment option for those looking to contour their profile and reduce submental fat while also improving mild laxity.

Ultherapy for Turkey Neck

ultherapy turkey neck solution

Ultherapy uses advanced ultrasound technology with precise imaging to tighten and lift the skin. This is a unique non-invasive skin tightening treatment as it is the only non-surgical tissue tightening device that treats at a level as deep as a facelift, the muscle. It also bypasses the outer layer of the skin delivering the energy exactly and precisely where to stimulate the body’s own regenerative response. The treatment takes approximately 45-90 minutes. It is possible to experience swelling, but it often resolves within one week. Some may notice results immediately although collagen will continue to stimulate and improvements will continue over the next 6 months with optimal results at that time. Ultherapy can be an excellent treatment for those concerned with skin laxity and who are not ready for a facelift or for those that would like to extend their surgical results.

Surgical Options for Turkey Neck

Signs of aging such as wrinkles and sagging skin can be counteracted through a neck lift or face lift, which tightens the muscle, removes excess fat and skin and gives the face a younger, fresher look. It is not uncommon for patients to look 10 or 15 years younger following a neck or facelift procedure. Liposuction is also a very popular procedure that gives your body a sculpted look by getting rid of unwanted fat under the chin. Both surgical options offer a fast and more dramatic result then non-surgical treatments. Surgical treatments also offer longer term results than non-surgical treatments. Candidacy and downtime vary based on individual goals and anatomy, therefore our experienced board-certified plastic surgeons offer complimentary consultations for patients to learn more about the surgeries and if it is right for them.

What are people saying about the Ultherapy Procedure?

Ultherapy is a non-surgical tissue tightening treatment FDA-cleared to lift skin on the neck, under the chin, eyebrows, and improve lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. It is commonly used off-label to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). The Ultherapy procedure is not a facelift, but it the only tissue tightening modality that uses advanced ultrasound energy and precise imaging to deliver energy at a level as deep as a surgical facelift, the muscle. Laser and radio-frequency delivers the energy on a more superficial level. The precise imaging of the ultrasound technology allows the technician to see the tissue of the skin which helps the energy be delivered safely and to where it will be most beneficial. The treatment takes about 45 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.

What do people love about the Ultherapy procedure?

Ultherapy is the only tissue tightening modality that bypasses the outer layer of the skin delivering the energy deeply and precisely where it is needed. Results from the treatment are gradual and natural. Some patients may see some lifting immediately after treatment but collagen will continue to stimulate over the next few months after treatment tightening and lifting the skin. Another benefit to Ultherapy is that it is just one treatment. There is no downtime after Ultherapy and one can return their normal activities immediately after treatment. Some patients may experience redness or swelling but it is temporary. Your provider will go over post care which may include washing with gentle cleanser and avoiding exfoliation for about a week after treatment.

Ultherapy vs Thermage

As we age, we unfortunately loose skin elasticity and collagen. If only we could walk around holding up our faces. The good news is there are advanced technologies available that can help stimulate collagen and in a sense turn back time.  2 frequently researched non surgical treatments for skin tightening are Thermage and Ultherapy. This article provides information about the technology, downtime, and results feedback of Ultherapy vs Thermage to give you an overview of both of these popular treatments.

Ultherapy vs Thermage: Which is right for me?

Thermage

How does Thermage work?

ultherapy vs thermage

Thermage uses focused radiofrequency technology to deliver heat to regenerate the skin’s collagen. There is a cooling mechanism that works in conjunction with the radiofrequency to help cool down and protect the outer layer of the skin while the radiofrequency delivers deep energy. Thermage is indicated to improve sagging skin and is often used to treat wrinkles around the eyes, face, and body.

What can I expect during a Thermage treatment?

The treatment itself takes about 45 minutes for an area such as the eyes or face and about 90 minutes for larger areas of the body. Comfort during treatment varies based on pain tolerance but is overall considered comfortable. There is no downtime said to be associated with Thermage except mild redness or swelling. Treatment results happen gradually and can take approximately 6 months for the optimal tightening effect.

Ultherapy

How does it Ultherapy work?

ultherapy vs thermage in north chicago

Ultherapy uses advanced ultrasound technology to stimulate the body’s own regenerative response.  Low levels of heat are delivered below the skin leaving the surface of the skin undisturbed. Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology and also imaging letting the practitioners to see the layers of tissue they are treated to ensure the energy is delivered where it will be most beneficial.  Ultherapy bypasses the outer layer of the skin delivering the right amount of ultrasound energy and temperature. Ultherapy is designed to tighten sagging skin and also lift the skin.

What can I expect during an Ultherapy treatment?

The treatment also takes approximately 45 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the size of the area that’s treated. Ultherapy pain level also varies based on pain tolerance but is also considered comfortable. There is also no downtime associated with Ultherapy other then possible redness or swelling. Treatment results happen gradually and can take approximately 6 months for the optimal effect.

Results for Ultherapy vs Thermage

ultherapy north chicago

In Dr. Ritacca’s professional opinion Ultherapy is more efficacious then Thermage due to the imaging system with Ultherapy that allows practitioners to see precisely where they are delivering the energy to; delivering it deeper to the connective tissue that attaches the skin to the bone therefore lifting the face vertically.
