Gynecomastia

Men of all ages can experience gynecomastia, a condition where the glandular tissue of the breasts are enlarged. Usually a result of obesity, hormonal changes, genetics, or certain drugs, gynecomastia can be a great source of embarrassment and teasing for anyone that has it. Men may feel emasculated by the condition, making them feel so self-conscious that they hide it by never taking their shirt off—even at the beach.

While gynecomastia is more common amongst overweight and obese men, weight loss might still not be an effective solution for enlarged breast tissue. Today, the most effective treatment for gynecomastia is through male breast reduction surgery.

Your Consultation

During your consultation, you will get to have an honest, informative discussion with our esteemed surgeon on gynecomastia surgery. You will be able to learn all about the risks and benefits of gynecomastia surgery, and your surgeon will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have about the treatment. Your surgeon will also perform an examination so that they can properly plan your procedure. You should be ready to provide an extensive medical history so that your surgeon can determine if you’re an ideal candidate for male breast reduction surgery.
You’ll also be able to discuss a quote for the procedure and what you should expect for the recovery period.

The Procedure

Depending on your specific condition, our procedure will be performed under general or local anesthesia. Your gynecomastia surgery will reduce the size of the breasts, remove excess skin, and flatten the chest so that it can enhance the masculine contours of the chest. Severe cases of gynecomastia might cause the breasts to sag, which could then stretch the areola. In that case, your surgeon will reposition and resize your areola.

Your Recovery

Your procedure will be an outpatient procedure, so you will be able to go home on the same day as the surgery. For their recovery, patients will be provided with a compression vest to help shape the new chest and to help reduce swelling. It’s advised that patients should avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks. You will be provided with narcotic pain medication to help with any discomfort, and once that’s been discontinued, patients will be able to return to work.
